To establish an environment grounded in real enterprise concerns for supporting the required viewpoints, methods, processes, formal languages, tooling, and architectures in an approach that is based on the principles of the OMG'S Model Driven Architecture ® (MDA®). The program uses Sparx' Enterprise Architect (EA) is the base tool for modeling.
A whole and complete model-driven environment that supports the principles, methods, practices, and techniques of the model-driven approach. The program organizes around key criteria, practices, and work principles necessary to achieve sustainable growth and the appropriate coordination of work with the new approach. For customers with an existing model-driven environment, the program focuses on assessing and producing customer and project specific results for aspects of the approach that are missing, flawed and incomplete.
This consulting program is essential for architects and tools administratorsholding a leading role in the initiative to establish a workable, sustainable and extensible model-driven environment using UML, SysML, and/or any other formal standard language. Moving beyond the basic tools mechanics for interoperability and model interchange, a model-driven environment is complete when it offers tooling that fully supports the approach by all collaborating communities, across projects and across time, and that supports cross-discipline interoperability. It is whole when every practice and computing concern is equally accounted for in all four areas of language, tooling, methodology, and architecture.
The model-driven approach brings new concerns and challenges that easily turn into serious breakdowns unless dealt with appropriately upfront with expert help. Breakdowns especially occur once the organization grows beyond expectations that governed the initial environment setup. Even rigorously established model-driven environments experience “impasses”, “incoherence points” and “uncertainty of concerns”, which are always a manifestation of an environment that is neither whole nor complete.
This category of problems is beyond understanding how to do things with a tool. It is a separate category that requires different thinking and practices than is commonly expected. The real risk this new category brings is the increasingly heightened cost that results from unplanned environment sustainability, extensibility and interoperability with other tools, and across work disciplines.
Participants in the program will produce an environment based on established working principles, practices, and tooling required to:
- Apply the principles of Model Driven Architecture (MDA) to the specific concerns of the customer
- Formalize and cope with the new category of problems of the MDA environment to fulfill customer-specific objectives
- Cope with the ever-present “communication” problems typical of large corporate/government communities dealing with complex environments, in light of the MDA approach
- Formalize and manage the lifecycle and evolution of shared architectures and reusable assets
- Formulate strategies for dealing with the new classes of problems in ways specific to the customer and their particular projects
- Cultivate new and rigorous thinking for separating concerns, formally dealing with levels of abstraction, and logically accounting for all domains of knowledge
This consulting program will help you establish a new, or improve an existing, formal, robust, and sustainable model-driven environment to take care of present concerns and future expansion, technological advances, and new requirements. It includes access to our model transformation technology framework, The CephMTF 4, a technology specifically designed to complement standard tooling for model-driven environments. The CephMTF 4 framework makes it possible for our customers to effectively adapt their development environment across the multitude of available model driven environments, architectural frameworks, and their home-grown solutions for model-driven approaches.
